El equipo discutió un problema técnico donde los dispositivos Apple Mac no pueden completar el proceso de autenticación cuando se conectan a una red Wi-Fi con controladores Cisco que utilizan ClearPass y un servidor de autenticación Microsoft Active Directory. Victor explicó que el proceso de asociación inicial funciona correctamente, pero cuando llega la solicitud de identidad del cliente, el dispositivo Apple no responde correctamente, causando un tiempo de espera infinito. El grupo identificó que el problema probablemente se debe a que los dispositivos Mac no están correctamente registrados en el MDM (Mobile Device Management) de Apple, ya que los dispositivos business requieren un proceso de onboarding específico a través de canales de distribución autorizados. Los participantes compartieron experiencias similares y aconsejaron que se necesita crear un SSID abierto para que los dispositivos puedan descargarse el perfil MDM primero. Ferney explained how devices discover Wi-Fi networks through passive scanning (beacons sent 10 times per second, per radio, per SSID) and active scanning (probe requests sent by clients and probe responses sent by APs), emphasizing that too many networks increase airtime utilization and overhead. The class covered the complete association process from WLAN discovery through open system authentication, association request/response frames, and finally IP address acquisition via DHCP, with Ferney demonstrating real packet captures using Wireshark to show the entire process taking 1.9 seconds. Ferney stressed the importance of keeping the number of SSIDs low to reduce beacon overhead and discussed different authentication methods including PSK and 802.1X, noting that PSK is less secure due to its vulnerability to brute force attacks when passwords are shared among multiple users.

Repasamos paso a paso desde la importación de planos, el ajuste de escalas (píxeles por metro) y coordenadas XY, hasta la creación de objetos de atenuación personalizados, columnas, pisos elevados y tramos de escaleras en 3D. Además, analizamos un caso real en un centro de convenciones masivo para comparar los mapas de calor del diseño predictivo contra las mediciones de validación tomadas en campo con herramientas como Sidos y Wi-Fi Explorer Pro. Demostramos cómo la discrepancia entre la teoría y la práctica nos obliga a ajustar en sitio las potencias, la inclinación (tilt) y la orientación de los APs. Para rematar, explicamos la creación de reportes interactivos en línea, mostrando cómo se puede compartir un enlace dinámico en 3D directamente con el cliente final para que este navegue el proyecto, revise el inventario de materiales (Bill of Materials) y observe los avances en tiempo real.

En esta sesión 355a de Tesos en Wi-Fi, ¡todo listo para Valencia! Ya quedó todo cuadrado para la WLPC Valencia en el Hotel Silken Puerta Valencia. La cita es así: del 11 al 13 de septiembre nos encerramos en la clase de WLANPros Wi-Fi Troubleshooting y el 14 y 15 nos nos vemos en la conferencia. Atención a todas las empresas y profesionales que quieran presentar o participar: ¡empiecen a mandar sus propuestas ya mismo para ir armando la agenda como lo hemos hecho en los años anteriores!. En la parte técnica queremos mostrarles en las clases cómo, teniendo un agente preconfigurado, podemos instalarlo localmente para interactuar con él directamente. Esto nos facilita muchísimo la vida para hacer análisis de red y trabajar con MCPs de forma rápida y sin tanta vuelta. Les mostré el monstruo de proyecto en el que hemos estado trabajando durante meses desde la etapa de diseño. Nos tocó cubrir un conjunto de varios edificios entrelazados con un movimiento gigante de APs. Habia un tipo NOC donde estaba el centro de datos con pura tecnología Ubiquiti switches, controladores y demás para lograr una cobertura total y eficiente en un entorno súper saturado, aguantando entre 12,000 y 14,000 dispositivos conectados entre cableado y Wi-Fi. Para no andar a ciegas, instalamos varios WLANPi en puntos clave del evento. Así, cuando pasaba cualquier inconveniente, podíamos hacer escaneos remotos en caliente y ver exactamente qué estaba pasando en el aire directamente desde nuestras computadoras.
